Community Giving
Northern Star Basketball Academy is not only concerned with developing basketball skills in Canada,
but is also highly committed to developing under-developed communities around the world. In May of
2010, Northern Star Basketball Academy travelled to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in partner with
Solidarity Experiences Abroad (SEA), and delivered a charity camp in "the favelas". The
ultimate goal of this charity initiative was to enhance physical activity, introduce dynamic
flexibility, decrease injury, promote long-term athlete development, and teach life-skills.
In February of 2012, Northern Star Basketball Academy will travel to Peru, to collaborate in the delivery of a sport for development project, in partner with Brock University's Sport Management Department & Solidarity Experiences Abroad (SEA). The ultimate goal of this project is to donate sport resources to local institutions of disadvantaged Peruvian communities and educate them with new ways to develop their local community through the use of sports. This project is slotted for February 16-26, 2012.
If you would like to make a donation for this solidarity initiative, please contact us directly at nsba.basketball@gmail.com. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated and will have a direct impact in a community that is much in need.
